EC & Narcan Vending Machines

Several clubs on campus have been working with the administration to allow important medications to become easily accessible, including Planned Parenthood Generation Action, Temple Overdose Prevention, and Savage Sisters Recovery. We intend to partner with them to elevate their important missions.

Breaking it down...

(Written by Gray Gill, Policy Writer)

Campus safety is not limited only to preventing crime, it also means reducing harm wherever possible. Better access to vital medication and resources will improve the experience of all students, and potentially save lives. While we encourage and work on campaigns to reduce drug use, our first priority is keeping people safe and alive. Narcan can be used to pause an overdose before emergency medical services can be reached. Additionally, emergency contraception will allow all students who can become pregnant with the peace of mind that they don’t have to put their academics on hold for an unintended pregnancy. Several clubs on campus have been working with the administration to allow these important medicines to be more easily accessible including Planned Parenthood Generation Action (led by Rika Poscover), and Temple Overdose Prevention. Many student organizations have signed on to advocate for this this initiative, and Poscover organized a roundtable with student representatives to receive feedback on the plan. We intend to partner with them to elevate their important missions. We also intend to include a pamphlet with directions and warnings that people can take with the emergency contraception or narcan. The goal is to place the machine in the 24 hour section of Charles Library so it is available at all times.
